MyFirstNEURON is a NEURON
demo written by Arthur Houweling after the book Electrophysiology of
the Neuron by John Huguenard and David McCormick (New York 1994, Oxford
University Press). MyFirstNEURON allows you to simulate experiments described
in the book. The demo is appreciated best by following the suggestions
of the book.
In addition, you can design a two neuron network
without
prior knowledge of the NEURON simulation package. Ionic currents that can
be experimented with include:
sodium and potassium leak currents
fast sodium and delayed rectifier currents responsible
for action potential generation
transient (A-) and slowly
activating (M-) potassium currents
calcium-activated potassium currents (AHP-,
C-)
high (L-) and low-threshold
(T-)
calcium currents
a hyperpolarization-activated (H-)
current
a persistent sodium current
AMPA, NMDA, GABAA
and GABAB synaptic currents
Other features include current clamp, voltage clamp,
synaptic stimulation, calcium diffusion and plots of the voltage-dependent
time contants and steady-state activation and inactivation curves.
